Halloween/Fall Fun * Stock Your Stash Challenge

Hello and welcome to the newest Stock Your Stash Challenge by Reverse Confetti. This monthly challenge is a fun way to get inspired by a topic and the Design Teams projects. We would love to see your Halloween and/or Fall Fun cards. Play along for a chance to win!

My card features Nuts About You  one of my favorite stamp sets by RC. I love squirrels and this one is just super cute and so is the adorable hedgehog.

I started by stamping the critters, the leaves, the mushroom and the acorns onto watercolor paper using a water resistant ink (Versafine Onyx Black). To make the squirrel look like he's sitting on the stump, I had to stamp him first and then mask him off. This way, I could stamp the stump and after removing the masking paper, I had the perfect little scene. Then, I painted a very light wash of yellow and light brown for the first layer of the background. I tried to stay very light in the center and get a little darker towards the edges of my panel.

Next, I used my Faber Castell Watercolor Markers to color all the stamped images. I put down a bit color where I wanted the image to be the darkest and spread the color with a water brush. After coloring all the images, I let them dry and went in with some colored pencils for details (a.g. stripes on the log) and darker shadows (a.g. on the squirrel).

Then, I went back to my background. I mixed some very light brown with my watercolors and painted some tree shapes by hand. I added some slightly darker trees for another layer. Next, I used a green watercolor marker and drew two little hill shapes for the squirrel and the hedgehog to stand on. I used my water brush to spread the green color and added shadows too.

As everything was completely dry, I went back in with green colored pencils and drew some grass to complete my scene. I added some light brown Distress Ink to the edge of my panel to create a little more glow in the center. I could have left it as is but I wanted to add a little bit of bling, so I glued down some warm yellow and green sequins. To finish up my card, I cut my panel to size, glued it to my card base and stamped the greeting.
