Happy Fall * MFT Countdown (3)

Hello and welcome to the third day of our MFT August Release Countdown. Only three more days until the release.

Are you a fall lover? Well, I am. First, because hot summer days aren't really my thing and second because  it's getting cozy around the house. These cute critters by Stacey Yacula seem to love the autumn season too, look how much fun they're having around the the camp fire!

If you want to recreate this card or got inspired to do a similar one, here's how I did it. I started by stamping and coloring the images. I went for watercolor paper, a waterproof black ink and Faber Castell Watercolor Markers. I wanted my critters to have some glow from the fire on their bodies, so I started by adding a bit of yellow to the one side that is looking towards the camp fire. By starting with the yellow, I made sure that it wouldn't mix too much with the darker colors.

After coloring these cuties and the fire, I cut them out using the coordinating dies. I set them aside and created the background. I took a piece of watercolor paper and painted kind of an oval shape just using water. This would make sure the paint stays in the spot I wanted it to be. This is called the wet-on-wet technique, as I will add wet color to the wet paper. I started adding dark blue color to the upper three thirds of the oval and added gray and light brown to the bottom. The colors did mix a bit, but that's totally fine. If they mix too much, I use a paper towel to remove some of the color. I dried the background with a heat tool and added a second layer of color to make the background darker. I let it dry completely and added a few white paint splatters to look like stars.

After cutting the background panel to size, I glued it to my card base and added the critters with foam tape. Now, I heat embossed a small sentiment, die cut it and adhered it with foam tape as well.

There's much more for you to see over to the MFT Blog. We have a bunch of new goodies to share with you.

Thanks for stopping by!
Have a cozy day,
Nicole
