to a new Wednesday Sketch Challenge inspiration. This cute patterned paper is from the newest release and I really wanted to challenge myself using it. I do struggle using patterned paper sometimes and I totally admire my fellow DT members who create the most wonderful projects using it.
I started by cutting a piece of patterned paper to size and added a bit of Distress Ink to the edges for a little interest. Next, I added a strip of grey card stock to create the ground for my critters to stand on. To give the floor a bit of a dimensional look, I added a bit of grey Distress Ink to the upper half of the strip. I glued the strip to the patterned paper and the paper to my card base. That is a really simple background which you can easily recreate with all kinds of patterned paper.
I tried to make the card interesting but not too busy. The large sentiment covers up quite a bit of the dotted paper and kind of calms the pattern down a bit. I also kept the colors for the dog and the cat simple.
I stamped, colored and die cut the images using watercolor paper and Faber Castell Watercolor Markers. I like to use Versafine Onyx Black ink with watercolors because it does not smear when it gets wet. I added my images to the panel using foam tape. Now, all that was left to do was die cutting two circles from a matching card stock and glueing them in place above the square focal point. I cut off the access paper and glued it to the bottom of my card. I glued my panel to the card base and my card was done.

I hope you got inspired to use some patterned paper for your backgrounds and/or to play our fun challenge.
