A Little Magic * MFT Countdown (1)

Hello and welcome to the last day of our MFT August Release Countdown. Only ONE more days until the release. Yay!

Today, I have not one but two cute owl cards for you. One with an ink blended background and the other using patterned paper.

I started by stamping, coloring and die cutting all the images for both cards. I used watercolor paper, waterproof ink and Faber Castell Watercolor Markers for my coloring process. I did plan my layouts a little bit, just to know which owls would be close to the moon and would have some yellow shine on their bodies.

Because it's hard to apply color to tiny spaces with a brush, I often use colored pencils over watercolor markers to add more depth or details. For example the stripes on the pumpkin are drawn with a colored pencil. I love how well the matching dies cut out the images in one go and I find it quite easy to align them.

After the coloring was done, I created the first background. I used one of my new favorites, one of the Extraordinaire Stencils and some Distress Inks. I made sure to have a yellow glow on my background, so the moon would have a nice shine. As my background was done, I adhered all the stamped images with foam tape, stamped a black greeting and the first card was done.

As the coloring for the second card was already done white making the first one, all was left to do was a bit of die cutting. I cut a circle from the black patterned paper and about half a circle from the green one. Next, I die cut the grassy border of the green one, so that I was left with about one third of the whole circle. I feel like this is well balanced and you'll find this "rule of thirds" on many creative peoples projects. I glued the grass to the night sky and then both to my white card base.

Then, I did some heat embossing on turquoise paper using white embossing powder and a clear sticky ink. I die cut my sentiment using a Skinny Strips die and added it to my panel with foam tape. Now, all was left to do was adding the owls to the panel as well and add some sequins for a little bling.
