Baby Shark * MFT Countdown (2)

Hello and welcome to another day of our MFT June Release Countdown. Only two more days until the release. Whohoo!

MFT has already released a bunch of super cute critter dies, like a dog, a pig, a raccoon and more. Now it's time for baby shark to rock your cards. How fun is this die set?! There's a matching sentiment set available as well!

I started by die cutting all the pieces for the shark. There's really not much to do here, it's so simple and easy. All you need is one big (gray) base piece, one (light gray) piece for the mouth/nose and two smaller ones for his teeth. I decided to add an additional piece to add red to his mouth. There's no die for that but you simply take the (leftover) inner piece of the mouth and cut a slightly larger piece of paper my hand. I added a little bit of gray ink blending to the edges on the body piece for some interest and to make him look more three-dimensional.

Next, I glued everything in place. There are embossed lines on the body piece that help you align the mouth. How cool is that?! Then, I wanted to add a bit of texture to my little shark. I added white gel pen dots as well as dark gray and white colored pencil dots. And I really wanted to add googly eyes because they're just so fun, right?!

Now, that my shark was done, I did the background. I took the Radiating Rays Stencil and applied a heavy amount of Diestress Oxide ink directly to the stencil. Then, I spritzed it with a water mister and  put it (color down) on a piece of watercolor paper. I took a paper towel and put it on top to soak up any leftover water. I let this sit for a minute and then removed the towel and the stencil. There was still color left on the stencil, so I added a bit more water to it and put it down a second time., making sure I rotated it a tiny bit to add color to the white spaces. What you get is a bunch of lighter and darker rays. I thing this looks like the shark is swimming right at you in full speed. ;-)

I adhered the shark to my background piece with foam tape and stamped the sentiment in black ink. I added some clear dots and my card was done. I hope you got inspired to make fun backgrounds with your stencils or to add googly eyes to your critters...
