hello friend * MFT Superstar Contest

Hello there

Have you seen the NEWS!!! My Favorite Things is having their Card Design Superstar Contest again 😀😀😀 One category is my go-to and absolute favorite one to make: Clean & Simple. Now, you think this could make it easy for me to join the fun but actually, I had quite a hard time to decide where to start ... yep, cardmaker problem 😆

Finally, I went for one of my favorite stamp sets and my favorite color ... So please join my litte fella hedgehog and his new friend for some hot cocoa. 😊

I'd like to enter this card to the MFT Card Design Superstar Contest in the category clean & simple.

What's so simple? Well, the coloring medium I picked is watercolor markers (Zigs). For me, it's the quickest and easiest way to color a cute image and still get a pretty look. My color combo is pretty simple as it contains only three colors: turquoise, beige and brown-gray.

The background technique is also a very easy to recreate and one of my favorites to make. You simply stamp the trees with Distress Inks and spritz some water on them using a (mini) mister. Just let that background dry and use that time to color and fussy cut your image.

And why do I call it clean? As you can see, there are no embelishments and no clutter at all but lots of white space. Yes, using Distress Inks can get messy but in this case, the look is still clean because the colors didn't go everywhere.
Another thing I focused on keeping clean are the edges of my stamped images. I stamped them with a crisp black ink and covered it with clear embossing powder. This way, my lines stay sharp and neat as I color with watercolor markers.
I don't know about you, but I love fussy cutting. I took the time to really cut clean and even borders around my images.

How I like to "spice up" my clean and simple cards you wonder? Well, I really enjoy combining stamp sets to create scenes that tell a little story. Picking stamps is just so much fun!! In this card, I used four stamp sets.
I also look for a harmonic use of colors. Neutrals are a great way to make a (favorite 😍) color the star of the show. Another thing I like to do is creating visual triangles (hedgehog, bird/cup and sentiment) or use the number three in other ways (like for the trees). I just feel it's so pleasing to the eye.

  1. What an exemplary clean-and-simple card! I particularly like the visual triangle between the three turquoise elements. The simple wintry color scheme works so well.
